The Double Entry Journal, sometimes called Double Entry Diary, helps students become more aware of their own thinking as they are reading. Especially important is the fact that students are asking questions as they use the journal while reading. I like the example below because its format is simple. I have seen other examples that appear too complicated, which could interfere with reading. I do not want students to become more focused on the Double Entry Journal than they are on the piece they are reading.
